Violinist Pia Liptak has been described as an imaginative and sensitive artist who brings a wider vision to her field by her many intellectual pursuits. She has performed as a soloist, chamber and orchestra musician in Europe and the United States. Exploring contemporary music and lesser-known repertoire mark much of Pia Liptak’s performing work.  

 

As a teacher, Pia Liptak has fostered musical understanding in students of all ages and been a passionate advocate for bringing all levels of musicianship together. The interchange between performing and teaching has always been a vital part of Dr. Liptak's work. She previously taught at the Odense Music School in Denmark, and she currently teaches at the Hochstein School in Rochester, NY, where she received the Hochstein Faculty Service Award in 2019. 

 

Her education includes degrees from The Carl Nielsen Academy of Music and the Eastman School of Music where she studied as a Fulbright Scholar. 

 

Pia Liptak has been the concertmaster of a number of ensembles including Cordancia Chamber Orchestra which she co-founded in 2009 and was the Artistic Director of for 15 years. She is recognized for her thematic programming for both solo and ensemble concerts. Through her work with living composers, she has commissioned music and new works have also been dedicated to her, including works for violin and Japanese koto. Her collaboration with Ryuko Mizutani produced three CD recordings . Most recently, she released an album of American violin and piano music with pianist Yi-Wen Chang. Pia has also published printed compositions of her own and a collection of commissioned pieces for young players. 

 

Among many grants and honors, Pia has received funding for both education and projects. On three occasions, she was granted month-long residencies at San Cataldo in Southern Italy, a center for Danish scientists and artists.
